Peugeot has revealed its new 508 Sport Engineered concept ahead of an official debut at the Geneva International Motor Show, with the potent sedan – billed as the high-performance division’s “first step on the journey towards electrification” – potentially previewing a production model.

Using the 508 Hybrid as a base, Peugeot Sport says it enhanced the sleek sedan's “design, performance and efficiency”.

While total system output has yet to be confirmed, the French brand does say the plug-in hybrid 508 Sport Engineered employs the firm’s familiar turbocharged 1,6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine (which we’re assuming is worth 147 kW) as well as an 82 kW electric motor on the front axle and a 150 kW electric motor on the rear axle.

Peugeot says the all-wheel-drive concept will accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 4,3 seconds and hit a “mechanically limited” top speed of 250 km/h.

The vehicle employs a 11,8 kWh battery, which the firm says provides a zero-emissions range of “up to” 50 km when switched to full-electric mode and CO2 emissions of 49 g/km when in hybrid mode.

Exterior changes over the standard sedan include a redesigned front bumper (complete with a 3D-printed valance) and a new rear diffuser. Other aerodynamic tweaks include new flaps fitted to the subframes to reduce drag and streamlined winglets sited on the quarter panels.

The concept furthermore boasts a new “Selenium Grey” paint finish (which the firm says “changes in the light”) as well as carbon-fibre side-mirror caps and an anodised finish for the Lion badge.

Inside, you’ll find new “comfort fit” seats, trimmed in a mix of leather and Alcantara. Interestingly (although perhaps not very practical), the gear lever is touch sensitive, while the asymmetrical steering wheel is trimmed in Alcantara with carbon-fibre inserts.
