Ford in the United States has taken the wraps off an updated version of its Mustang Shelby GT350, describing it as the “ultimate track Mustang”.

Perhaps the most notable update is the addition of a new rear spoiler with optional Gurney flap and optimised grille closeout, which Ford says was “designed and tuned with experience gained from wind tunnel development” of the Ford Performance Mustang road course racing cars and upcoming Shelby GT500 model.

Ford furthermore says the Mustang Shelby GT350’s standard MagneRide active suspension has been updated with recalibrated springs and revised damping.

In addition, the brand says its engineering team worked with Michelin to develop Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres with a GT350-specific tread pattern and different compound. The resulting 295/35 front and 305/35 rear tyres cover new 19-inch alloy wheels.

Stopping power is provided by six-piston front and four-piston rear calliper Brembo brakes, while Ford has also tweaked the vehicle’s electric power steering and three-mode electronic stability control settings. The naturally aspirated 5,2-litre V8 delivers the same 392 kW and 581 N.m as before, and is again mated to six-speed manual transmission from Tremec.

Inside, fresh styling cues include machined aluminium trim and newly designed door panel inserts in suede. Recaro race seats are standard, while new power-adjustable perches will also be offered. A 12-speaker B&O Play audio system by Harman will also be available.
