Rumours of a Lexus LC F has been swirling for some time now. But a fresh report out of Japan claims what would have been the spiritual successor to the LFA has been killed off before it even hit the market.

Yes, Japanese publication Carsensor claims the LC F project has been canned as part of a broader cost-cutting drive sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the LC F was expected to be powered by an all-new 4,0-litre twin-turbo V8, the report interestingly suggests development of this engine will continue.

Carsensor says a presumably detuned version of the twin-turbo V8 will eventually be employed by various models in Toyota’s SUV and bakkie ranges in North America.

There’s also a fair chance it’ll be dropped into the LC at some point down the line (again, likely in detuned form and sans the “F” badge), replacing the current version’s naturally aspirated 5,0-litre V8 unit.
