Hyundai has released a handful of teaser images of its upcoming i30 Fastback N, which is set to become the third member of the Korean automaker’s fast-expanding high-performance N division.

The first two products to be launched under the N banner were the i30 N hot hatch and the Veloster N.

The brand says the new N-badged Fastback model is in “the final stages of development”, which includes “extensive assessments” on a variety of road surfaces. Of course, the Nordschleife circuit at the Nürburgring in Germany is one of the key testing locations.

Unveiled earlier in 2018, Hyundai says the standard i30 Fastback is the “only five-door coupé in its segment”. It claims that the new i30 Fastback N will take this model “to another level”.

Expect the N-badged Fastback derivative to use the same 2,0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine (complete with an overboost function) as the i30 N. In the hot hatch, this powerplant makes 202 kW and 353 N.m in the case of the Performance Package model, and 184 kW and the same peak torque figure in the standard model. Drive is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

The new i30 Fastback N is due to be launched later in 2018.
