When the latest limited-edition Dakar model joined the local Toyota Hilux range earlier in 2018, it debuted a fresh new face for the big-selling bakkie. And now Toyota South Africa has started the process of rolling out the new front-end to other derivatives in its line-up.

From what we understand, Raider and SRX variants across the double-cab, xtra-cab and single-cab ranges will gain the Tacoma-style hexagonal grille and new front bumper arrangement (the Japanese brand’s local website now shows images of the 2,8 GD-6 4x4 Raider double-cab model, including the "raised body" version, wearing the new visage).

According to the Toyota SA website, this updated model will be offered in eight colours, including Arizona Red, Cosmic Blue, Avante-Garde Bronze Metallic, Attitude Black, Graphite Grey Metallic, Chromium Silver, Glacier White and the Inferno Metallic hue debuted by the Dakar edition.

In addition, we've learned that four new derivatives have been added to the double-cab range, including two new "S" models (the R359 200 2,7 VVTi Raised Body S 5MT pictured below and the R376 900 2,4 GD-6 Raised Body S 6MT) each wearing a black front bumper and the old Hilux face, and running on steel wheels. A new 2,4 GD-6 Raised Body SR 6MT likewise joins the line-up, along with a 2,4 GD-6 Raised Body SRX 6AT.

Of course, Toyota earlier told us that the new face (which includes a new version of the front foglamps) doesn’t “compromise” the Hilux’s ground clearance, approach, departure or breakover angles.

As a reminder, the Dakar edition is currently offered on 2,8-litre engine derivatives in the double-cab range (plus on the 4,0-litre V6) as well as in the xtra-cab line-up.
