Toyota has taken the wraps off a special Land Cruiser Heritage Edition in the United States, with the limited-edition derivative set to make its public debut at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show.

Some 1 200 examples will be built, exclusively for the North American market.

Offered only in two-row guise to “maximise cargo capacity”, the Land Cruiser Heritage Edition can be specified in either Midnight Black Metallic or Blizzard Pearl paint. Black grille trim and bronze-coloured BBS 18-inch alloys (the latter complete with a “Toyota” centre cap) are also included, along with a vintage-style “Land Cruiser” exterior badge.

Interestingly, the vehicle’s running boards and chrome lower body side trim have been deleted (ostensibly in the name of its “overlanding focus”), while darkened headlamp housings, foglamps with dark chrome surrounds and side mirrors with darkened chrome details also serve to set this model apart.

Inside, the Heritage Edition is fitted with black leather upholstery, while the bronze wheel colour is repeated on contrast stitching used throughout the cabin, including the steering wheel, door trim, centre stack, console and seats. All-weather floor mats and a cargo liner are also part of the package.

Unlike the Land Cruiser 200 sold in South Africa (offered exclusively in turbodiesel form), this US-spec model is powered by a 5,7-litre V8 petrol engine sending 284 kW and 544 N.m to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
