The Road Traffic Management Corporation says traffic authorities in Gauteng have “identified” the Audi driver who filmed himself speeding at an indicated 308 km/h on the N1.

“The speeding motorist has been identified by our traffic authorities. He must come forward and present himself or we will visit him at his place of resident [sic] in Midrand,” the RTMC said on Twitter.

The 25-second clip, which Yusuf Abramjee posted on Twitter (it apparently originated on Instagram), shows the vehicle’s digital instrument cluster as the speed rises.

Judging by the logo just above the central speed readout, the vehicle in question is an Audi TTS ... although obviously one that has been tuned and had its limiter lifted, seeing as the standard model is electronically restricted to 250 km/h.

The video shows the vehicle accelerating from 243 km/h to 308 km/h, apparently on the N1 south near Midrand.
