The facelifted Fiat 500X has been revealed, boasting not only fresh styling inside and out, but also a new range of turbocharged petrol engines.

The updated 500X gains new a LED daylight running light signature plus fresh LED rear clusters, as well as the option of LED headlamps. In addition, the Urban version features fresh front and rear bumper designs, while the Cross and City Cross models boast new-look protective skidplates.

Inside, the Italian brand says the 500X’s cockpit has been “completely restyled”, featuring a redesigned instrument cluster (with fresh graphics), a new steering wheel and more premium leather upholstery.

Like the similarly refreshed Jeep Renegade with which it shares its underpinnings, the facelifted 500X also gains new “Firefly” turbocharged petrol engines.

Developed on a modular structure with 0,33-litre cylinder unit, the new engine line-up includes a 1,0-litre three-cylinder that makes 88 kW and 190 N.m, paired with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive; as well as a 1,3-litre four-cylinder with 110 kW and 270 N.m, combined with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

The naturally aspirated 81 kW 1,6-litre petrol engine, which is mated to a manual transmission and front-wheel drive, remains in the European line-up. Fiat says it has also updated its three MultiJet II turbodiesel engines, what are offered in 1,3-, 1,6- and 2,0-litre guises.

Last we heard, the upgraded Fiat 500X is expected to arrive in South Africa towards the end of 2018.
