An updated version of the Hyundai H-1 has been launched in South Africa, wearing a fresh new face and gaining some extra equipment when compared with the outgoing range.

As before, the local line-up will comprise three derivatives: a petrol-powered bus and a diesel-engined bus, along with a diesel panelvan.

In Executive guise with urge (an unchanged 126 kW/224 N.m) coming from a naturally aspirated 2,4-litre petrol mill, the nine-seater H-1 bus will set you back R499 900. The 2,5-litre diesel engine (also unchanged at 125 kW and 441 N.m), mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, is offered in Elite specification, and retails for R629 900.

A glance at the outgoing range will reveal that these two fresh-faced variants are priced exactly as they were before. The lone panelvan option, too, is still priced at R459 900, and employs the same turbodiesel powertrain as detailed above.

So, besides the bold new styling up front, what's changed? Well, both bus derivatives gain automatic (projector) headlamps plus rake and reach adjustment for the steering column, while the diesel model furthermore scores a reversing camera, body-coloured side-mirror caps and new 17-inch alloys. There’s now also an optional (R2 522, with an SD card sold separately) navigation system.

Similarly, the panelvan gains projector headlamps plus rake and reach adjustment for the steering column.

Interestingly, Hyundai Automotive SA says the six-seater Multicab derivative has been discontinued, although it adds that "individual orders with deposits for this practical derivative will still be considered".

As before, Hyundai's five-year/150 000 km warranty, with an additional two-year/50 000 km powertrain warranty, is included, along with a five-year/90 000 km service plan.
