Volkswagen has taken the wraps off a one-off Amarok V6 built with help from off-road specialists Arctic Trucks.

Created in Iceland in partnership with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles dealer Hekla, the Amarok AT35 is being used as a support vehicle for winter driving experiences.

The special bakkie gains a 25 mm front and rear suspension lift, as well as flared fibre-glass wheelarches, bigger wheels, the obligatory 315/70 R17 all-terrain tyres and larger mud flaps front and rear.

Inside, the Amarok features a fire extinguisher, a portable generator and – somewhat bizarrely – a cappuccino machine. A VHF radio, toolbox, jack, first-aid kit (with defibrillator) and work light are also included in the Arctic Trucks conversion.

Under the bonnet you’ll find the standard 3,0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine, churning out an unchanged 165 kW and 550 N.m, and mated to all four corners via the Wolfsburg-based brand’s familiar eight-speed automatic transmission.

VW says the AT35 retains the standard Amarok's 45-degree climbing ability, a payload of 1 154 kg and its hill descent assist function.

"The Volkswagen Amarok has been a massive hit since its introduction and we’re delighted to see it proving its worth in some of the toughest conditions in the world," said Nick Axtell, specialist sales manager for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK.
