Volkswagen recently confirmed a new small double-cab bakkie is on the way (with a near-production concept set to be presented at the São Paulo International Motor Show). And now a digital artist has rendered the new MQB-based pick-up.

Brazil-based artist Kleber Silva has used the new T-Cross as a base for his interpretation of the as-yet-unnamed unibody bakkie.

Interestingly, he has presented two rendered versions, both in flashy R-Line guise: the first (above) features a compact load bay and roof rails, while the second (below) appears to boast a longer load bed and a general shape seemingly inspired by the Atlas Tanoak concept.

VW earlier described the upcoming model as “urban-oriented”, adding that it will feature a clever “multivariable loading area”. The brand says the new all-wheel-drive concept vehicle will be “positioned below the Amarok”. Although it doesn’t specify, we suspect this new model will sit just above the Saveiro and take on the Renault Duster Oroch.

Volkswagen says the production model will launch on the Brazilian market in the “foreseeable future with just a few minor tweaks”. The automaker adds the new “pickup’s potential is so great” that the vehicle concept “could conceivably be suitable for other regions”.

Towards the end of the first week of November, we'll find out just how close these renderings are to the real thing when VW whips the covers off the concept vehicle in Brazil...
