Volkswagen South Africa has quietly added a new DSG-equipped derivative to its Tiguan price-list, expanding the local line-up to eight derivatives (in addition to the four-strong Allspace range) and offering its self-shifting transmission in conjunction with the base Trendline trim level.

The Trendline specification was previously available only with a six-speed manual (for R403 900), linking the 1,4-litre TSI engine (which is worth 92 kW and 200 N.m) to the front axle.

This new variant, however, gains not only the Wolfsburg-based brand’s six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, but also higher peak outputs, which come in at 110 kW and 250 N.m (and match those of the DSG-equipped 1,4 TSI Comfortline model).

The price for the front-drive newcomer (which, we should point out, won't be available with the R-Line exterior kit you see in the image above)? Some R424 900, or R65 000 less than the equivalent Comfortline.

As a reminder, Trendline models come standard with 17-inch alloys, the five-inch “Composition Colour” touchscreen infotainment system (with USB, Bluetooth and eight speakers), multi-function display plus and cruise control (with a speed limiter).
