The folks over at Spanish publication km77 have put the new Ford Focus – which is due to arrive in South Africa in the first quarter of 2019 – through the dreaded Moose Test, with the latest version of the Blue Oval brand’s C-segment hatchback earning a “good” rating.

In the video below, the Focus – in this instance, in 1,0-litre EcoBoost form and employing a torsion-beam rear suspension arrangement – is subjected to one of the toughest handling tests out there, designed to simulate an animal suddenly running in front of a moving vehicle.

As we’ve pointed out before, though, whereas the Swedes usually perform the evaluation at about 60 km/h, this test from the Spaniards is conducted at higher speeds.

The Focus (here running on 18-inch alloys wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rubber, in 235/40 size) was put through the test first at the standard 77 km/h, which it completed without any problems. The best successful attempt of the day, meanwhile, was at a pretty lofty 83 km/h.

Watch the clip below, which includes a slalom test, to see just how well the Ford Focus performed (take note that the commentary is in Spanish, but has the option of English subtitles)...
