Aston Martin Red Bull Racing has announced that former F1 racing driver David Coulthard will be piloting the championship-winning RB7 Formula One race car at the firm's upcoming Cape Town circuit event.

“We received an incredibly warm welcome when we first took our show car to Cape Town back in 2011 and we are delighted to return this year,” Christian Horner, team principle at Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, said.

“South Africa has a great heritage in F1 ... we look forward to seeing fans, old and new, turn out in force to witness the spectacle." Coulthard agrees, saying he's looking forward to the event.

According to Red Bull, a host of local motorsports personalities would also be present at the event.

Horner added that although Formula One was a global sport, only a small number of countries were on the calendar, and thus not all fans had the chance to experience the thrills of Grand Prix racing.

"It's down to our show car team to travel farther afield and share the speed and sound of our sport with as many fans as possible".

Coulthard, who will be at the helm of the Red Bull RB7, made his racing debut for Williams F1 in 1994, succeeding the late Ayrton Senna. Four years later, he joined McLaren, and in 2005 started his tenure at Red Bull Racing.

The car he'll be driving round the Cape Town circuit on 2 June 2019 was first utilised at the 2011 Australian Grand Prix by Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. In the RB7, these drivers managed to achieve 13 race wins and 62 podium finishes for Red Bull.

The Cape Town circuit will be based at the Grand Parade.
