Another week, another drag race from the enterprising folks over at CarWow in the United Kingdom. This time, the new (SA-bound) BMW M340i xDrive takes on its stablemate (and full-fat M product), the BMW M2 Competition.

Of course, it’s worth noting here that the M340i uses a turbocharged straight-six petrol engine worth 275 kW and 500 N.m, with that significant oomph sent to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The lighter M2 Competition, meanwhile, employs a twin-turbo engine of a similar configuration (3,0-litre inline-six), churning out 302 kW and 550 N.m. Of course, in this case drive is directed to the rear axle only, while the vehicle used in this race is fitted with a manual gearbox.
