In terms of visual updates, the Pajero gets a new front grille (with chrome accents and enlarger diamond logo) and redesigned front and rear bumpers. The taillight clusters now appear darker than on the previous Pajero, the side steps are colour-coded and illuminated, mudguards have soft rubber extensions and the entire range gets 17-inch six-spoke alloy wheels.

The powerplant in the range's flagship, the 3800i, has a maximum power output of 150kW at 5 000 r/min and 314 N.m of torque at 3 250 r/min. The engine is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with Optimum Shift Control and Adaptive Shift Control gear selection programs.

Pajeros are again equipped with a Super Select 4WD system that allows you the option of rear-wheel drive that can be adjusted to part time four-wheel drive at speeds of up to 100km/h. In addition, all the models in the range are equipped with Mitsubishi Active Stability Traction Control (M-ASTC) system.

In terms of its interior, the range is subtly different to its predecessor. The standard upholstery remains black leather, but can be specified in beige on five-door derivatives. In the 3,2-litre 16-valve intercooled turbocharged direct injection diesel models there are new central console displays that give external temperature, air conditioner airflow direction, date, time and radio/CD information readouts.

The petrol derivatives feature full colour displays, offering more driving and environmental information, including outside temperature, a barometer, altimeter, compass, date and time, air conditioning status, average speed and fuel consumption.

Safety features in the Japanese SUV include: ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, force limiters and pretensioners for the front- and automatic locking retractors for the rear belts.

Pajero models will be sold with a two-year/100 000km warranty and three-year/100 000km Maintenance Plan.
