BMW claims that this V8 is the first petrol engine in the world to feature its turbocharger in the V-section between the two rows of cylinders.

The xDrive35i plays host to a 225 kW straight-six petrol engine - the most powerful straight-six within BMW’s engine portfolio. This 2007 World Engine of the Year delivers 400 N.m torque from 1 300 to 5 000 r/min, and can go from standstill 100 km/h in 6,7 seconds. Top speed is 240 km/h.

BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive features as standard on this model. This technology comes with electronic control for variable distribution of drive power between the front and rear axles, consistently adjusted to driving conditions at all times and in all situations. A new standard feature called Dynamic Performance Control, ensures variable distribution of drive between the two rear wheels via a complex differential system that offers a dynamic similar to four-wheel steering. The unit works in conjunction with an on-board computer that detects when the vehicle is losing traction and sends varying levels of torque to the rear wheels when required.

Various typically BMW features, such as the signature kidney grille and dual round headlights that have been cut off at the top, have been carried over into this model.

Carrying through the performance theme and feel that BMW has tried to create with this model is an optional Active Steering system that adds weight to the wheel at higher speeds an provides a more direct feel. This vehicle also comes fitted with gearshift paddles that provide manual control of the six-speed automatic transmission. The X6 Sports Activity Coupe comes with a choice of ten body colours, 11 leather options and three trim options. In lieu of wood finishes, there is an option of aluminium interior trim.

Other distinctive design features on this X6 include pronounced wheel arches that accommodate a sporty set of 20-inch alloys and newly designed side mirrors made up two units, and finished in body colour and aluminium trim.
