Its down to the wire in this year’s national Production Car championship with nine points separating Class A front-runners Anthony Taylor and Martin Steyn ahead of the remaining four races.

Approaching Saturday’s East London showdown, Taylor (Castrol BMW 330i) leads the log and is followed closely by Steyn in his LG Alfa 147 GTA. Forty points are left to fight for and both drivers will need maximum points in both races to stay in the race.

Hennie Groenewald will support Taylor in the second Castrol BMW 330i. Morné Jurgens and Marco da Cunha will pilot the remaining 147 GTAs.

However, the two teams should be on constant alert for the Kaye-Eddie BMW 330i drivers Johan Fourie and Steven Morris, Leeroy Poulter (Champion Ferodo Mercedes-Benz C320) and Richard Sorensen (Titan Aviation BMW 330i).

In Class B, the favourites are Shaun van der Linde (Castrol MINI Cooper S) and Craig Nicholson (Sabat MINI Cooper S), with the two supercharged cars clearly superior in the category.

Clint Weston in his Ford Focus ST170, Phillip Kekana (Sasol Toyota RunX RSi) and Brian Martin’s Havoline-backed RunX RSi will display all that the normally aspirated powerplants have to offer at Scribante.

Completing the class roundup are the turbo diesel Mercedes-Benz C270 CDIs of Mark Allison and Hector North.

With 18 cars representing five manufacturers, Class C will boast some of the Saturday’s toughest competition. For sheer pace, veteran Mike O’Sullivan in his Mosport Fiat Palio will be the man to beat.

The similar factory cars of Theunis Eloff and Dawie Brough should offer O’Sullivan some support while Carlos Nobre (VW CitiGolf 1,6i), Dave Compton (Toyota Tazz 1600) and Miguel Pasqualli (M&R Ford Ikon 1600i) try their hands at a win. James Menin (Goldco Midas Opel Corsa GSi), Fanie de Bruin (Makita Ford Ikon 1600i) and Eckhardt Schoenknecht in his turbo diesel Delo VW Polo TDi should be strong contenders on the day as well.

Other drivers who could provide surprises include Robi Beninca (Beninca

Tech VW CitiGolf), Shane Williams (Trident Press CitiGolf) and Cor Kraamwinkel in the works Daihatsu Sirion 1300.
