GM South Africa's operation has received a shot in the arm with the announcement of three new management appointments.

GM South Africa's operation has received a shot in the arm with the announcement of three new management appointments.

Former vehicle line platform manager Wendle Roberts(picture 1) has been appointed as chief engineer at the subsidiary's Struandale plant.

Roberts has been with the company for 26 years after starting his career in 1979 as a student apprentice.

With a diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Roberts has already completed a number of assignments with the company, including a three-year assignment as European liaison manager at Adam Opel in Germany.

Herman Schutte(picture 2) will assume the role of Opel's brand manager from May 1. Schutte joined the company in 2003 as a regional operations manager and has a National Diploma in Management.

Alastair Ironside(picture 3) shifts from being the marketing and planning manager to his new appointment as manager of the product planning division. Ironside started his career at GM in 1980 as a graduate trainee and has a Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

Schutte, Ironside and Roberts' appointments are effective from May 1, 2005.
