Seven times Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher was injured in a skiing accident on Sunday. The German driver, considered by many to be the best of all time, fell during an off-track excursion and sustained head injuries.

The 44-year old was airlifted from the French resort to a local hospital. He was reportedly conscious when airlifted, but at the time of writing there were mixed reports about his condition ranging from "life-threatening" to "stable".

His official spokesperson, Sabine Kehm, posted this message on www.formula1.com:

“Michael suffered a head injury in a private ski trip in the French Alps. He was taken to hospital and is receiving professional medical care."

“We ask for understanding that we cannot give continuous information about his health. He was wearing a helmet and was not alone. For his fall, no other person was involved.”
