Ferrari's all-new 2+2, the 612 Scaglietti, is due to hit the streets next year.

For the first time, Ferrari will manufacture a 12-cylinder model with both the space-frame chassis and body panels in aluminium, built in-house at Modena at the dedicated Scaglietti technologies facility. This construction method includes a 60 per cent increase in structural rigidity and significant weight savings of 60 kg compared with the current 456M GTA - despite the new car's larger dimensions.

Its layout, with the engine mounted behind the front axle and the gearbox in unit with the differential at the rear, ensures a balanced weight distribution. With 46 per cent of the weight focused at the front, a low centre of gravity is maintained.

The performance-orientated handling is enhanced by active damping and a new stability and traction control system, making its first-ever appearance on a Ferrari. The 612 will run on 18 inch front wheels with 245/45 tyres and 19 inch rear wheels with 285/40 tyres.

The 612's 5,7-litre, 12-cylinder, 48-valve engine generates a maximum output of 403 kW at 7 250 r/min, with 588 N.m of torque at 5 250 r/min. It’s claimed that the Scaglietti 612 can achieve 0 – 100 km/h in 4,2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 315 km/h.

The 612 will be fitted with a six-speed gearbox and a choice of manual or F1-style paddle shifts. Newly developed for the 612 is the F1A , an electro-hydraulic system designed to deliver both fast and ultra-smooth gear changes.

At 4,9 metres, the wheelbase is significantly longer than the 456M’s and the 612 has been designed to offer ease of entry for rear-seat passengers. The luxurious cabin will comfortably accommodate four adults and includes a dual-zone climate control and a Hi-End Bose sound system, specifically tailored to suit the unique acoustics of the leather and aluminium trimmed interior.

On-board comfort is boosted by the adoption of 'new generation' ergonomics for the instrument binnacle and features steering-wheel mounted and facia-mounted controls.

The new 612’s dimensions are noticeably greater than those of the 456M and the boot capacity has been enlarged to 240-litres, easily able to accommodate two full sets of golf clubs.

Designed by Pininfarina and named after the famous Ferrari coachbuilder Sergio Scaglietti, the all-aluminium 612 can seat four people.
