Fit and functional with loads of space, Renault’s popular long-wheelbase Grand Scenic is available in South Africa with a choice of two engines and trim levels.

It is offered in 1,9 dCi turbodiesel or 2,0-litre 16-valve petrol modes, both available with a six-speed manual transmission. The petrol version is also offered with a four-speed automatic transmission.

The two-litre four-cylinder engine is fitted with variable valve timing and a drive-by-wire throttle. Maximum power of 98,5 kW is developed at 5 500 r/min while peak torque is quoted at 191 N.m at 3 750 r/min, 90 per cent of which is available from 2 000 r/min onwards.

The turbodiesel engine uses common-rail injection and a variable nozzle turbocharger. Its maximum power output is 88 kW at 4 000 r/min, while maximum torque of 300 N.m is available at 2 000 r/min.

From the outside, the 2,0-litre 16-valve with the Expression trim level is distinguished by colour-coded door handles and side mirrors, dark grey side mouldings, front foglights and 16-inch steel wheels.

Typically Renault, the equipment levels on both models are generous. The 2,0-litre offers a centre console with a digital information display and a rake-and-reach adjustable steering column. The steering wheel is fitted with satellite controls for the standard CD front-loader and tuner.

Other standard equipment includes manual air conditioning with a pollen filter, refrigerated and illuminated glovebox, and a day/night interior mirror with electrochromic auto-dipping functions.

The driver’s seat is adjustable for lumbar support and height. When not in use, centre seats can be folded flat or completely removed. The two rear seats can fold right into the floor area while the front passenger seat can be folded flat, too.
