A new report suggests that the controversial BMW 3 Series GT will effectively be killed off at the end of its current generation, as there are seemingly no plans to replace it.

According to sources quoted by the folks over at BMWBLOG, the 3 Series Gran Turismo will go out of production in July 2020.

The (apparently fairly slow-selling) F34 model features a five-door fastback body style complete with a hatch, and larger dimensions than the standard 3 Series sedan. It received a facelift in June 2016.

In South Africa, the 3 Series GT range currently comprises three derivatives (320i, 320d and 340i), with the line-up priced from R604 104 to R848 634.

Interestingly, the report added that the current (F36-generation) 4 Series Gran Coupé was also expected to go out of production at some point in 2020, but that the nameplate would return around a year later.

In June 2017, the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo was killed off, with that model replaced by the 6 Series Gran Turismo.
