In January 2019, we revealed local pricing for the new, two-strong BMW Z4 range, which last we heard was scheduled to launch in South Africa in March 2019. Now we have unearthed pricing for the special "First Edition" variant.

While the entry-level sDrive20i (R759 442) can be fitted with an M Sport package for an additional R23 200, the flagship M40i derivative (R1 036 698) can be specified in First Edition guise for some R120 700 extra, taking its price to R1 157 398.

So, what do you get for the added outlay? Well, the BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line package is included, along with Frozen Orange Metallic exterior paint, an Anthracite Silver effect for the cloth roof, special two-tone 19-inch alloys, black side-mirror caps and adaptive LED headlamps (with a high-beam assist function).

Inside the M40i First Edition, you’ll find electrically adjustable seats (with a memory function for the driver and lumbar support for both pews), wireless smartphone charging, a head-up display, a Harman Kardon surround sound system, BMW Live Cockpit Professional and ambient interior lighting. Keyless entry/start as well as anti-dazzle functions for the mirrors are also part of the deal, while buyers will have the choice of black or ivory white Vernasca leather upholstery.

As with the standard M40i, the First Edition employs a turbocharged 3,0-litre inline six-cylinder developing 250 kW and 500 N.m, linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission from the folks over at ZF. According to BMW, this M Performance variant needs 4,5 seconds to reach three figures and tops out at 250 km/h.
