Fresh reports out of the United Kingdom suggest that Ford is considering killing off three more nameplates in Europe as well as cutting its global workforce.

According to two UK publications – The Sunday Times and The Telegraph – the Blue Oval brand is considering scrapping the Mondeo (or, as we knew it here in South Africa, the Fusion), Galaxy and S-Max in Europe.

In April 2018, Ford announced that only the Mustang would remain in its passenger vehicle line-up in North America, spelling the end (in the US and Canada, that is) for the likes of the Fiesta and Focus. This came after the brand announced plans to radically revamp its range, with a renewed focus on bakkies and SUVs.

The slow-selling Fusion, of course, was discontinued in South Africa towards the end of 2017. Reports from July 2018 likewise suggested that the sedan would be killed off at the end of its current generation, although added that there were plans to use the badge on a new crossover.

The latest reports out of the UK added that the Dearborn-based automaker was weighing up whether to slash its global workforce by as much as 12 percent, with the bulk of the cuts likely to take place in Europe, as it seeks to save costs.
