Ian Callum, who has stepped down from the position of director of design at Jaguar after two decades, has chosen his next car: a facelifted XE sedan.

“I love this car,” Callum told Autocar, making reference to his box-fresh facelifted XE, specified in HSE R Dynamic guise and finished in red.

“It might be the smallest model in [the] range, but I’m particularly proud of its design,” he added.

“And on those wheels with that pack and in that bold colour, it’s a real head-turner,” Callum said.

The 64-year-old spent the first 12 years of his career at Ford, before moving on to become chief designer of TWR Design, where he was responsible for the styling of the Aston Martin DB7, Vanquish and DB9.

Since joining Jaguar in 1999, Callum led design teams responsible for the F-Type as well as the XE, XF and XJ saloons, plus the F-Pace, E-Pace all-electric I-Pace SUVs.

Julian Thomson will take over from Callum at the start of July 2019, having previously served as creative design director.
