BMW has revealed a range of M Performance parts for the new X5, with the Munich-based brand saying the goodies will be available “right on time” for the vehicle's global market launch.

The automaker says the majority of the performance parts not only give the vehicle a “more striking, dynamic appearance”, but also serve a “functional purpose”. Some have a positive impact on the vehicle’s aerodynamic properties, for example, while others save weight.

Many of the M Performance exterior components are offered in carbon-fibre, finished by hand and sealed with a clear finish. Examples include the air intake trim element for the standard bumper and the front winglets, as well as the rear winglets and the rear diffuser. Special side-sill foils in matte black are also available, branded with the “M Performance” inscription.

A set of 20-inch M light alloy wheels (in the Star Spoke 748 M design) is also offered, wrapped in all-terrain tyres. Optional 22-inch wheels are furthermore available (in the Start Spoke 749 M style), each saving about one kilogramme over a comparable alloy.

The M Performance sports braking system, meanwhile, comprises aluminium four-piston fixed callipers on the front axle with 19-inch inner-vented and perforated brake discs.

Inside, new options include an M Performance steering wheel with “high-grip” Alcantara handling areas, floor mats with the M Performance inscription as well as pedal pads and a footrest in stainless steel. There’s also an M Performance key wallet made of Alcantara with a carbon-fibre insert.
