Kia has released a fresh batch of teasers ahead of the reveal of the third-generation Soul, with one of the images giving us our first glimpse of the boxy crossover’s new infotainment system.

Set to make its debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, the Korean automaker promises the new Soul will feature “more technology, available advanced driver assistance systems and increased cargo room”.

It has also confirmed a fresh “ruggedly styled” variant dubbed the X-Line (likely featuring extra body cladding and perhaps even a further raised suspension) will likewise be revealed, along with an all-electric derivative.

The brand says a naturally aspirated 2,0-litre petrol engine and a turbocharged 1,6-litre four-banger will also be offered, with the option of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The image of the new Kia Soul’s infotainment system shows the screen divided into three tiles: one displaying navigation, the second music and the third the connected smartphone.

Earlier in 2018, Kia Motors South Africa trimmed the local Soul range from seven variants to three. The base 1,6 Start, Soul 1,6 CRDi Start and Soul 2,0 Smart are the remaining derivatives, with the 1,6-litre turbodiesel engine no longer offered with a dual-clutch gearbox.

The new model is scheduled to go on sale in global markets starting in 2019, although the timing of its expected introduction to South Africa has yet to be confirmed.
