The head of Mercedes-AMG has revealed that the new A45 will feature an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, a so-called "drift mode" and more than 300 kW.

Speaking to CarAdvice at the Paris Motor Show, Tobias Moers said the next-generation A45 was “an all-new story”.

“It has a lot of improvements, including the chassis, a brand new four-wheel-drive system … there's nothing common with what you know today," Moers told the Australian publication.

"It's a dual-clutch eight-speed – the A35 is a seven-speed, the 45 will have an eight-speed," he revealed.

Moers went on to confirm the new version of Affalterbach’s hyper hatch would boast a drift mode.

"The chassis compared to today – it's unbelievable. There's more comfort, more rigidity in every way, so we put a lot of effort into the body-in-white. There's lots of reinforcement and it fits perfectly. You can go sideways with it," he added.

Back in March 2018, Moers confirmed the new A45 would draw its urge from a "brand new 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine".
