The new Mercedes-Benz EQC has finally been revealed, with the German brand billing the electric SUV's unveiling as "the start of a new mobility era at Daimler”.
The first Mercedes-Benz to be launched under the EQ brand, the new model features two asynchronous electric motors – one at the front and one at the rear (effectively making it all-wheel drive) – with a combined output of 300 kW and 765 N.m.
The Stuttgart-based automaker claims the newcomer boasts a range of “more than 450 km”. Top speed is governed to 180 km/h, while the sprint from zero to 100 km/h takes a claimed 5,1 seconds.
Interestingly, Mercedes says the two electric motors are configured differently: the arrangement up front is “optimised” for efficiency in the low- to medium-load range, while the rear motor “determines dynamism”. A 650 kg lithium-ion battery with an energy content of 80 kWh supplies the vehicle with power.
The Mercedes-Benz EQC measures 4 761 mm long, 1 884 mm wide and 1 624 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2 873 mm (for reference, the distance between its axles matches that of the GLC). Boot capacity, meanwhile, comes in at a claimed 500 litres.
As standard, the EQC is equipped with a water-cooled onboard charger with a capacity of 7,4 kW, making it suitable for AC charging at home or at public charging stations. Of course, charging at a Mercedes-Benz Wallbox is up to three times faster than at a domestic power socket, and faster still with DC charging.
The EQC also features the brand’s latest MBUX multimedia system, which here adds numerous EQ-specific functions (such as the display of range, charge status and energy flow).
Production of the new EQC is scheduled to start in 2019 at the automaker’s plant in Bremen.
