Toyota in Japan has released a raft of Gazoo Racing parts for the GR Yaris, a 200 kW hot hatch that is “likely” to hit South Africa in 2021.

In the brand’s domestic market, the firm now offers an aerodynamics package that includes a GR front spoiler, GR side skirts and a GR rear bumper spoiler. There’s also a GR sports muffler that culminates in four tailpipes (rather than the standard two).

The catalogue furthermore includes a thin body stripe, a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic numberplate surround (plus locking bolts) and exterior door handle protectors, along with GR-branded valve caps.

The list of interior accessories is made up of branded floor mats, a luggage mat and various carbon-effect interior panels, plus a Gazoo Racing recorder (which slots neatly into the cubby hole). There’s also a GR strut tower bar for under the bonnet.

As a reminder, the three-door GR Yaris employs a turbocharged 1,6-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine offering 192 kW/360 N.m in European spec and 200 kW/370 N.m in Japanese spec. Toyota says the hot hatch will hit 100 km/h from standstill in “less than 5,5 seconds”.

In May 2020, Toyota South Africa Motors told CARmag.co.za the GR Yaris hot hatch was “likely” to launch locally only in 2021.
