The American owner of an E30 BMW M3 has turned his Dakar Yellow example into a truly special creation, with an engine swap and some choice changes to the chassis.

Of course, the E30 3 Series is widely regarded as an important piece of car culture, even if this generation of M3 didn't make its way to South Africa.

At the front, the standard-fit 2,0-litre, four-cylinder S14 engine has been binned in favour of the E36 M3’s naturally aspirated 3,0-litre straight-six unit, which has been tuned to 239 kW. Using a six-speed manual gearbox and UUC Motorwerks Stage two flywheel clutch kit, this M3 is apparently able to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in less than 5,0 seconds.

For improved handling, a rear 3:73 LSD has been installed, along with a set of Ireland Engineering swaybars and Treehouse Racing eyeball arms. Finishing the build off is a Supersprint sports exhaust system.

Finished in Dakar Yellow, the exterior remains largely untouched apart from the addition of 17-inch Forgestar F14 wheels finished in matte black and wrapped in a set of Hankook V12 Evo tyres. Red Brembo brake callipers contrast with the black-and-yellow scheme.

Refinements to the cockpit include an Alcantara headliner, a set of Recaro racing seats, a custom powder-coated roll bar (with the rear seats deleted) and an M-Tech 2 steering wheel. The gear shift and handbrake boots have been finished in UUC Alcantara, while cabin insulation was provided by Dynamat.
