The facelifted Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has been revealed in Thailand, with the Japanese firm handing its bakkie-based SUV fresh styling, an updated cabin and added features.

Built at the Laem Chabang plant in Thailand, the refreshed seven-seater Pajero Sport – which will again compete with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest and Isuzu MU-X – is set to be sold in around 90 countries, including South Africa.

You’ll no doubt have already noticed the SUV’s new face, which gains the brand’s latest “Dynamic Shield” design and brings it neatly into line with the likes of the facelifted Triton bakkie, new Eclipse Cross and refreshed ASX. Round back, however, little has changed (although it appears as though the tweaked taillamps no longer extend into the rear bumper).

Inside, you’ll find a new eight-inch colour display in the instrument cluster as well as the brand’s “Smartphone-Link Display Audio” arrangement (of the same diameter) sited in the centre of the facia. Lane change assist and rear cross traffic alert functions have also been added.

In addition, Mitsubishi has introduced a powered tailgate, complete with a hands-free feature. Interestingly, Mitsubishi says a new “remote control” feature will send a notification to the driver's smartphone to lock the doors (via an app) when the vehicle is left unlocked. The powered tailgate can also be operated via the smartphone app.

What else has changed inside? Well, the automaker says it has redesigned the floor console (with its storage tray now accessible from both left and right) and added soft-padded interior door handles. Furthermore, a new AC power outlet has been added to the existing USB point at the rear of said console.

As expected, nothing’s changed under the bonnet, where the firm’s 2,4-litre turbodiesel engine is still mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission (and likely still offering 133 kW and 430 N.m).
