Although the wraps have only just come off (officially, anyway) the new BMW M3 and M4, the Munich-based firm has already detailed a comprehensive list of M Performance parts.

Perhaps the most interesting item is the titanium M Performance silencer system, which weighs around 5 kg less than the standard component. It culminates in four titanium, ceramic-coated tailpipe pieces, which are centrally mounted (rather than two per side).

BMW claims this lightweight system provides “an even sportier driving experience thanks to optimised exhaust gas routing”.

What else is on the M Performance parts list? Well, there’s also an M Performance sports suspension arrangement. The coilover setup permits what BMW describes as an “infinitely variable reduction of ride height” of between five and 20 mm. The M Performance sports brake pads, meanwhile, result in “shorter braking distances, better response characteristics and high thermal resistance”.

Of course, there are also plenty of carbon items on the menu, from a front splitter and aero flicks to side-skirt trim, a rear spoiler and a rear diffuser. For those wishing to stand out even more, there’s the option of the M Performance Motorsport decal set, too. BMW furthermore offers various alloy wheel options (measuring up to 22 inches at the rear).

Inside, the new M3 and M4 can be fitted with M Performance door-sill trim, floor mats, Alcantara kneepads (sited on the centre console) and an M Performance Pro steering wheel, while shift paddles finished in an open-pore carbon fabric (rather than the standard chrome) are also on offer.

As a reminder, the new 375 kW M3 Competition and M4 Competition are scheduled to arrive in South Africa in the first half of 2021. The "standard" 353 kW models fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, however, are not on the cards for a local introduction.
