The new Ferrari 812 GTS has been unveiled, arriving as the spider version of the V12-powered 812 Superfast.

Like the coupé, the new 812 GTS employs a front-mounted, naturally aspirated 6,5-litre V12 generating 588 kW and 718 N.m, linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and singing all the way to 8 900 r/min.

Ferrari says the newcomer will hit 100 km/h from standstill in “under 3,0 seconds”, before reaching the 200 km/h mark in 8,3 seconds. Top speed is quoted as “over 340 km/h”.

Of course, what sets the 812 GTS apart from its coupé sibling is its retractable hard top, which Ferrari says “guarantees a larger boot capacity”. The top opens or closes in 14 seconds at speeds of up to 45 km/h. With the aforementioned roof mechanism (and additional body strengthening), the GTS is some 75 kg heavier than the Superfast.

Ferrari says an electrically operated rear screen, which acts as a wind-stop, makes the car “truly useable with the top down”. With the top up, the screen can be left open to provide occupants with full aural access to the V12’s soundtrack.

On the open-top version of the 812 Superfast, the entire rear of the car – including the roof, tonneau cover and luggage compartment – has been redesigned. Interestingly, the rear wheelarch has lost the Superfast’s aerodynamic by-pass, although the rear diffuser has gained an additional flap.

The new 812 GTS also features new model-specific multi-spoke forged wheels offered in a choice of three finishes.
