Kia has whipped the wraps off its new Grand Sedona, which it says is even “more stylish” than its predecessor thanks to various “SUV-inspired design elements”.

Known as the Carnival in its domestic market, Kia’s big MPV now moves into its fourth generation.

The new Grand Sedona features a shorter front overhang than before, with the base of the A-pillar shifted backwards to create a longer bonnet. The wheelbase, meanwhile, has been lengthened, resulting in “greater space throughout the cabin”, says the Korean firm.

In profile, you’ll notice the character line that spans the length of the vehicle, linking the front and rear lights. There’s also a fresh C-pillar design (seemingly inspired by that of the new Sorento), comprising a chrome fin that wraps beneath the tapered rear windows and extends towards the tailgate.

The new model furthermore features a floating roof design, with blacked-out A- and B-pillars supporting the body-coloured roof. Round back, the Grand Sedona gains a metallic lower skid plate. The company has yet to release images of the cabin.

While there’s no word yet on powertrain options, Kia says more details will be “revealed soon”. For the record, the newcomer is due to hit the market in Korea later in the third quarter of 2020, with global sales to “follow thereafter”. Kia Motors South Africa says the newcomer is scheduled to hit local roads at some point in 2021.
