Volkswagen has revealed the second production-ready model in its ID range, with the new ID.4 taking the shape of the brand's first all-electric crossover.

And it's this ID.4 that is likely to be the first electric vehicle offered by VW South Africa at some point in 2022.
Inspired by the ID. Crozz concept, the fresh-faced ID.4 sits on the same MEB platform used by the ID.3, featuring a design that promises impressive aerodynamics.

Initially, the ID.4 will be offered as a rear-wheel-drive product, although the Wolfsburg-based firm says an all-wheel electric drive system will be added to the portfolio at a later date. A low centre of gravity has been achieved by slotting the high-voltage battery near the middle of the chassis, a move VW promises will provide both impressive dynamics and interior packaging.

No performance figures for the ID.4 have yet been revealed but a range of up to 500 km on a single charge is claimed, depending on which drive package is specified. Interior images have likewise not yet been released although an all-digital cockpit and touch controls have been confirmed, together with an "intuitive" voice control system.
