A South African tuner has released details on its stage four kit for the Ford Ranger 2,2 TDCi, handing the bakkie significantly more power and torque.

Randburg-based tuner RGMotorsport says its flagship package for the 2,2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine will hike its peak outputs from the stock 118 kW and 385 N.m all the way to 185 kW and 520 N.m.

Taking this route, the company says, makes more sense than shelling out for a 3,2-litre five-cylinder model (which offers 147 kW and 470 N.m as standard) or indeed one of the new bi-turbo 2,0-litre variants (157 kW and 500 N.m), although we’d point out that modifying your bakkie will, of course, void your warranty.

RGM says the stage four conversion includes not only a Unichip Power Plug to manage the electronics, but also an enlarged turbocharger, bigger intercooler, a Techniflow downpipe and stainless-steel exhaust system and a performance air-filter element in the standard airbox.
