From June, Suzuki Auto SA will add the new two-seater Suzuki Super Carry bakkie to its local line-up.

Not only will the diminutive Super Carry become the first light commercial vehicle to be offered by Suzuki Auto SA, but South Africa will also be the first market outside of India to introduce the newcomer.

The local arm of the Japanese automaker hopes the Super Carry – which measures just 3,80 metres long and 1,56 metres wide – will lure small business owners and entrepreneurs into its showrooms.

Technically now in its eleventh generation, the Suzuki Super Carry was first launched in Japan way back in 1961 under the Suzulight banner.

The latest Super Carry boasts a claimed payload of 750 kg, together with a useful load-bay measuring 1,49 metres wide. Ground clearance comes in at a handy 175 mm, while Suzuki claims a turning circle of 8,6 metres. The Super Carry employs a rigid axle and leaf springs at the rear.

So, what's under the bonnet? The brand's GB14 four-cylinder petrol engine, which makes 54 kW and 101 N.m, does duty, linked to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.

Built in India, the new Suzuki Super Carry will be priced at R129 900, inclusive of a three-year/100 000 km warranty.
