A special collaboration between Volkswagen and Walkinshaw in Australia has resulted in this rather extreme take on the Amarok bakkie. With the Ford Ranger Raptor in its crosshairs, the special bakkie, dubbed the W580, has been kitted with a bespoke suspension and some unique body enhancements.

Developed over the course of 12 months, the W580 features some notable styling touches, such as a newly designed front grille and bumper design, a custom twin exhaust complete with side pipes at the rear axle and a set of bespoke Walkinshaw-designed 20-inch alloy wheels exclusive to the this model.

Adding to the off-road performance is a specifically tuned suspension by Walkinshaw that raises the overall ride height by 40 mm on the front axle to accommodate the chunky 275/50 R20 Pirelli Scorpion tyres.

The interior sees minor changes; W580 branding and a plaque indicating the build number being the only additions.

The Amarok W580 sports the turbodiesel, 3,0-litre V6 in its standard state of tune developing 190 kW and 580 N.m of torque.
