Porsche has revealed its new Cayenne E-Hybrid, which combines a 3,0-litre V6 petrol engine with an electric motor for a total system output of 340 kW.

Based on the third-generation version of the German SUV, the hybrid model features a 250 kW petrol mill and a 100 kW electric motor, with the resulting system boasting maximum torque of 700 N.m (available from “just above idling speed”).

The obligatory zero to 100 km/h dash takes a claimed 5,0 seconds, while the plug-in hybrid model (which comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive) runs out of steam at 253 km/h. The Stuttgart-based brand says its new Cayenne E-Hybrid can travel "up to a distance of 441 km" and speed of 135 km/h on electricity alone.

Porsche says that the new model’s boost strategy is “derived from the 918 Spyder”, with maximum system torque becoming available as the driver presses the accelerator pedal.

The fluid-cooled battery, stored beneath the loading floor in the rear of the vehicle, comprises eight cell modules with 13 prismatic lithium ion cells each. Battery capacity has been increased from 10,8 to 14,1 kWh.

Alongside the launch of the Cayenne E-Hybrid, Porsche says it is also expanding its range of “comfort and assistance systems” for the Cayenne range, with new options such as the new head-up display, massaging seats and 22-inch wheels being added.
