Peugeot South Africa has added two new diesel-powered variants to its 3008 range, expanding the local line-up to seven derivatives.

At launch last year, the local range features only one engine, a 1,6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol mill worth 121 kW and 240 N.m, used in all five variants. But now the French automaker’s local distributor says it has added the option of a 2,0-litre HDi mill, available in two trim levels.

In Active specification, this four-pot oil-burner is mated to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox (incidentally, the only stick-shift in the range), while the Allure version employs an automatic transmission. The former comes in at R474 900, while the latter costs R520 900, making it the second-most-expensive variant in the 3008 line-up.

Peugeot SA says the 2,0-litre turbodiesel is worth 110 kW at 4 000 r/min and 370 N.m at 2 000 r/min, with a claimed combined consumption of 5,0 L/100 km. As with other models in the range, the new diesel derivatives come standard with a three-year/100 000 km warranty and a four-year/60 000 km service plan.
