Fresh photographs of what appears to be the production version of the new BMW 4 Series have leaked online, effectively confirming the coupé will feature a massive new grille design.

Posted on Instagram by various users (including @wilcoblok and @allcarnews), the photographs show partial front and rear views of the upcoming G22-generation 4 Series coupé.

The front shot gives us our best look yet at the new model’s grille, which seems to largely resemble that of the controversial Concept 4 revealed in Frankfurt in September 2019. This version of the grille – which here interestingly doesn’t feature vertical slats (is this perhaps an M440i?) – includes a conventional numberplate holder in the centre.

The second image shows the new model’s taillamp design as well as the edge of a thin spoiler lip atop the bootlid.

The Munich-based firm has yet to announce when it will reveal the G22-generation 4 Series but when the newcomer does officially show its face, expect the engine range to mirror that of the G20-generation 3 Series sedan...
