Toyota has released a fresh teaser image of its upcoming Supra as well as confirmed that the new version of the sports car will be offered with an inline six-cylinder engine.

The brand says it “expects” its new Toyota Supra to hit the market during the first half of 2019.

The new Supra will make its debut in prototype form (camouflaged in the black, red and white colours of Toyota Gazoo Racing) at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed (from 12 July), where it will be driven up the hill by chief engineer Testuya Tada and “master driver” Herwig Daenens.

The Japanese automaker has furthermore confirmed that the model will be “faithful to its distinguished heritage” and offered as a “pure, thoroughbred sports car by using a front-mounted, inline six-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive”.

That engine, of course, is likely a version of BMW’s turbocharged 3,0-litre powerplant, considering that the new Z4 and the upcoming Supra were co-developed (and will be built on the same production line).

The Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva International Motor Show will also be on display at Goodwood.
