The folks over at Spanish publication km77 have put the new BMW X4 through the dreaded Moose Test, with the Munich-based brand's coupé-style crossover earning a “good” rating.

In the video below, the X4 – in this instance, the xDrive20d derivative – is subjected to one of the toughest handling tests out there, designed to simulate an animal suddenly running in front of a moving vehicle.

As we’ve pointed out before, though, whereas the Swedes usually perform the evaluation at about 60 km/h, this test from the Spaniards is conducted at higher speeds.

The X4 (here running on optional 20-inch alloys wrapped in Yokohama Advan Sport rubber, in the sizes 245/45 up front and 275/40 at the rear) was put through the test first at 77 km/h. However, the driver failed to complete the manoeuvre, citing the “sharp” intervention of the stability control.

After a few more attempts and defter use of the steering, the driver completed the test successfully at 77 km/h, the highest speed managed on the day. For the record, the xDrive20d employs a 2,0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine worth 140 kW and 400 N.m.

Watch the clip below, which includes a slalom test, to see just how the BMW X4 performed (take note that the commentary is in Spanish)...
