Yes, the first quarter of 2017 has already come and gone. So, we've decided to look back on the first three months of the year, break out the calculator and work out which five bakkies are the runaway leaders in terms of sales.

In 2017 so far, the Toyota Hilux leads the way, with close to 9 000 units registered in South Africa in Q1. The Ford Ranger is a mere 107 units behind in second place. It's certainly shaping up to be a close race...

A whopping 5 053 units further off the pace, though, is the Nissan NP200 in third, with its NP300 sibling breathing down its neck in fourth. Fifth place, meanwhile, is currently occupied by the Isuzu KB, with nearly 3 000 units sold.

The Chevrolet Utility finds itself outside of the top five, some 704 units behind. The Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-up (774) is next in line, with the Volkswagen Amarok (456) and Nissan Navara (451) currently separated by a mere five units.

SA's 5 best-selling bakkies of Q1 2017:

1. Toyota Hilux – 8 931
2. Ford Ranger – 8 824
3. Nissan NP200 – 3 771
