The facelifted Volkswagen Up! range is due to launch in South Africa later this month, but we've stumbled across some early details … including pricing.

The local line-up will comprise four derivatives, all in five-door flavour (the three-door models fall away) and all powered by an unchanged 1,0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine (55 kW/95 N.m) married to a five-speed manual transmission. Look closely and you might be able to spot a few subtle exterior design revisions.

As before, the range kicks off with the Take Up!, now priced at R164 700 (an increase of R4 300 over the pre-facelift equivalent). Next up is the somewhat better-equipped Move Up! for R178 300 (which commands a R10 800 premium over the model it replaces), adding a multi-functional steering wheel and electrically adjustable side-mirrors.

The special edition Club Up! and Colour Up! derivatives also leave the range, replaced by the Up! Beats, which, like the Polo Beats introduced last month, is fitted with a premium sound system. This model comes in at R194 700.

VW SA earlier told us that the facelifted Cross Up! variant would be added to the local line-up in February 2017, and it seems this model will also be priced at R194 700, which represents an increase of R9 200.

Volkswagen's local arm has finally opted to fit all but the entry-level model with Bluetooth and a USB port, although both will be optionally available on the base Take Up! as well (for R600 and R1 750, respectively). Service and maintenance plans, however, are still optional (R4 576 for a three-year/45 000 km service plan and R7 182 for a maintenance plan of the same length).

Pricing:
Volkswagen Take Up! 5-door 1,0: R164 700
Volkswagen Move Up! 5-door 1,0: R178 300
Volkswagen Up! Beats 5-door 1,0: R194 700
Volkswagen Cross Up! 5-door 1,0: R194 700
