The new Toyota C-HR is set to launch in South Africa this week, and we've managed to source pricing for the three-model range.

The figures are largely in line with the predicted pricing Toyota shared on the international launch.

Each of the three derivatives in the local line-up is powered by a turbocharged 1,2-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit. This mill – which is the first turbopetrol in Toyota SA's local line-up – provides the front wheels with 85 kW and 185 N.m. The latter figure is on tap from 1 500 to 4 000 r/min, while the claimed 0-100 km/h time is 10,9 seconds.

The boldly styled light crossover measures 4 360 mm long, 1 795 mm wide and 1 555 mm high, which makes it around the size of a Nissan Qashqai.

The base C-HR comes in at R318 500 (undercutting the entry-level Nissan Qashqai 1,2T Visia by some R7 400), while the mid-range "Plus" variant – which also employs a six-speed manual transmission, but adds some extra equipment, such as cruise control, foglamps and dual-zone climate control – is priced at R345 000. Both sip at a claimed 6,3 L/100 km.

The range-topping model (R356 000) features the same trim level, but swaps the manual gearbox for a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Claimed economy comes in at 6,4 L/100 km.

In some markets, a 1,8-litre hybrid powertrain (lifted from the Prius) is also offered, but – initially, at least – this does not appear to be on the cards for South Africa.

Pricing:
Toyota C-HR 1,2T: R318 500
Toyota C-HR 1,2T Plus: R345 000
Toyota C-HR 1,2T Plus CVT: R356 000
