The sales figures for the second month of 2017 are in and show, somewhat predictably, that the battle for the title of South Africa's best-selling bakkie is still as close as two coats of paint.

Although aggregate new vehicle sales were flat at 48 113 in February 2017, the light commercial vehicle segment saw a healthy gain of some 9,7% when compared to the corresponding month last year.

And, as usual, we've decided to take a closer look at the sales figures to identify the 10 best-selling bakkies of February 2017 (see the 10 best-selling passenger vehicles here).

After settling for second place in the first month of 2017, the Toyota Hilux is back on top in February, edging the second-placed Ranger by a mere 173 units.

The Nissan NP300, meanwhile, climbed to an impressive third place, forcing its NP200 sibling down one spot to fourth. The Isuzu KB held steady in fifth, just about managing to crack the 1 000-unit mark.

The Chevrolet Utility likewise held onto sixth place, with the Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-up steady in seventh. With the first units of the new model starting to hit dealers, the Nissan Navara made an appearance in eighth, forcing the Volkswagen Amarok and Mahindra Scorpio Pik-Up down to a joint ninth place.

That means there's no room for the Mahindra Bolero (75), Mitsubishi Triton (66), Mazda BT-50 (62) or Fiat Fullback (28) in February.

See the top ten list below, and have a look at January's figures here.
