The sales figures for the second month of 2018 are in ... and whopping 1 116 units separate the top two vehicles as the battle for the title of South Africa’s best-selling bakkie continues.

According to Naamsa, February's new vehicle industry sales came in at 46 347 units, representing a decline of 1 854 vehicles or 3,8%, year on year (be sure to check out the 10 best-selling passenger vehicles and the 14 worst-selling cars, too). The light commercial segment, meanwhile, fell 9,6% to 13 212 units for the month.

So, exactly what happened in terms of bakkies sales in February 2018?

Well, the Toyota Hilux retained top spot (after beating the Ford Ranger by 426 units in January 2018), with the Ranger having to settle for a distant second.

The Nissan NP200 held onto third, while the Isuzu KB also managed to hold steady in fourth. The Nissan NP300 was fifth yet again, while the Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-up retained sixth.

The recently updated Mahindra Pik-Up kept seventh, while the GWM Steed moved up one place to eighth, pushing the Volkswagen Amarok down to ninth. The Nissan Navara again settled for the final spot on the list.

That means there’s no room for the Mazda BT-50 (83), Mahindra Bolero (62), Fiat Fullback (38) or Mitsubishi Triton (32) in February.
